The Parish “Technology Group” has spent the last year evaluating our current sound system with the help of several local consulting firms. These experts work with clients like the San Francisco Symphony and Opera, The DeYoung Museum, AT&T Park, as well as many local churches, including our new “Cathedral of Christ the Light” in Oakland. Fortunately, corporate accounts subsidize the work they do with centers of worship like ours.
They have identified several problem areas our church has: room acoustics, speaker placement, low-quality wireless microphones as well as amplifiers without any delay capability. They have provided us a comprehensive and reasonable estimate of costs, but it far exceeds what we would be able to afford using funds from our general operating budget.
Under Fr. Ray’s leadership, we formed the “MultiMedia Fundraising Group” and have put a plan together to raise the needed funds to make this project possible. One of our fundraising efforts was to raffle off a car or $20,000. We partnered with longtime and active parishioner Ron Nelson, president of Bill Nelson Chevrolet in Hilltop, to sell raffle tickets. The drawing was held on on August 3, 2008 and we sold over $60,000 worth of tickets!!
We now have the necessary funds to install a new state of the art sound system. Next, we will complete the bid process and put together a working group to determine the best way to use the money that we have raised.
